About
Our Origin:
In 2021, Hurricane Ida made landfall on the Louisiana Gulf Coast as a Category 3 hurricane, forever changing Louisiana’s history and the lives of its inhabitants. In the immediate aftermath of widespread devastation, TRZ’s founder responded by focusing on the community and helping those in need through outreach and doing what we do best: hard work. What began as debris removal, storm repair, and community restoration has since evolved into a full-service carpentry company and home improvement contractor serving the greater New Orleans area and the Gulf Coast region.
Our Mission:
To provide tailored solutions to complex problems for the people of the city we love and the region surrounding it.
Our Founder:
Lawrence Eugene Trunk III is a New Orleans Native and a dedicated construction professional with over 15 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business with a concentration in Management and Marketing from Spring Hill College, and is a graduate of St. Martin’s Episcopal High School. Before that, he attended Christian Brother School in City Park and St. Louis King of France in Bucktown.
Lawrence’s father introduced him to construction at a very young age, around 6. At that age, Lawrence could often be found on site pretending that tools were in fact fishing rods—as any Louisiana boy would. By the age of 10, smashing porcelain tubs and interior walls with sledge hammers and moving dirt with Bobcats took center stage. From there, school and sports took over until the summer of 2010, when Lawrence took up a landscaping job while attending summer classes at his alma mater in Mobile, AL.
Lawrence’s first construction position after graduating was as a laborer and maintenance tech for his best friend’s mother. It was at her company, K&D Properties, that he continued learning the basics of construction for two years while performing property preservation work on bank-owned foreclosed properties. In 2015, Lawrence left K&D Properties to work alongside his father. At this stage, he further developed his skills in flooring installation and painting and began becoming acquainted with managerial practices and responsibilities. Over the next three years, he would gain experience in multi-family maintenance, commercial new construction, project management, safety management, site supervision, and quality control.
A new career path emerged in 2018, and Lawrence relocated to North Carolina for a construction management role with a regional General Contractor focused on VA hospital and military base projects. Starting as an assistant superintendent, he quickly ascended to the position of full superintendent and assistant project manager within his first year. Upon the one-year anniversary of his hire there, Lawrence made another move to a Safety Director role with a high-rise building envelope company in Raleigh, N.C. After 6 successful months implementing a new organizational-wide safety program, Lawrence returned home during Mardi Gras of 2020, and for the next year, returned to work with his father, where he supervised COVID-era skeleton crews on a large-scale new construction build in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. During that time, carpentry caught his eye. The craftsmanship, the beauty, wood grains and stains, the smells, the designs, all stemming from the palms of one’s hands; there was art in carpentry, and he wanted every part of it.
In March of 2021, Lawrence took a position as a carpenter with another local New Orleans carpentry company. There, he learned historical restoration, millwork, and the finer points of craftsman carpentry. Eight months later, Ida struck New Orleans. Lawrence immediately reached out to his community members to help in the best way he knew how. Over the next two months, Lawrence worked as a full-time carpenter for his full-time employers from early morning until early afternoon, and then worked as a full-time contractor for his clients from the afternoon until late into the night. Finally, hard work, dedication, and striving for excellence manifested themselves on December 28th, 2021, when, at approximately 8:52 pm, TRZ Carpentry LLC was officially born.
